The issue

A major retailer felt that in order to conduct more effective negotiations with long-term suppliers, its buying team needed to enhance their technical financial skills.

The action

To create a relevant, practical programme, our training team shadowed buyers at supplier meetings, identifying opportunities to improve the commercial aspects of negotiations.  This led to a highly tailored training programme, which included meetings with potential suppliers, role-played by professional actors.

The outcome

The programme was highly successful, enabling the buying team to make significant savings on its purchasing decisions, yet maintain strong supplier partnerships.
