The issue
A global airline needed to increase the operational capabilities of its senior management teams. They wanted a development event to be part of a larger senior management education programme, and to include a number of technical inputs while being practical and adopting a learner-centred approach.
The action
We designed a complex yet practical business simulation that reflected the operational pressures confronting the airline’s managers. This required participants to apply strategic, financial and people management skills, with particular emphasis on operations. The simulation was interspersed with inputs and reviews, and gave them immediate practice and feedback on exercising their new skills.
The outcome
The simulation was the undisputed highlight of the company’s senior management programme, generating enormous energy, enthusiasm and commitment to the programme. It provided a springboard for subsequent actions and was remembered by participants long afterwards.
