The issue
A specialist supply chain consultancy wanted to design a task to underpin its theoretical approach to supply chain management. They hoped that by enabling delegates to apply the ideas and approaches explored by the programme, their open courses would have more impact.
The action
Working closely with the consultancy, we developed a two-day business simulation to run within a three-day course. The first day was primarily inputs, after which delegates worked in functional teams and moved through a lifecycle of their business. At the end of each trading period, teams moved to a new function and so gained experience across all four - namely Plan, Make, Source, and Deliver. Between trading periods, participants reviewed performance, planned future business activities and managed their handovers to the incoming team.
The outcome
The programme was so successful that the lead client sent several of its own teams on the programme and also arranged for its suppliers to share our innovative and practical approach to supply chain management.
